It’s not everyday that you get the chance to stand on the roof of a two-story, Victorian Italianate house built in 1883 near downtown Ashland. When that opportunity affords itself on a day (near the end of autumn) when half the town is getting rained on and the other half is under a bright blue sky you count yourself lucky. Today’s photo is about a 300 degree panorama I photomerged together. For loads more details click on the above image. Depending on your browser you may want to click on it again for even more detail. SOU on Halloween (2012)

On Halloween I had to give a test during the annual, Ashland Halloween parade. I think this was only the second time I have missed the Halloween parade in 11 years. The other time I was in Japan watching their version of a Halloween parade. Rain was falling for the beginning of the test, but by the time I walked out of my classroom in Taylor Hall at 5:30 the rain had stopped and the campus was empty. Upon seeing this scene I realized I should go get my camera.

Ashland has had a change in weather over the past few days. This is not so good for those of us who like the warmer temperatures, but it is great for photography with the crazy clouds, different lighting, and unpredictable colors that come with. I took today’s photo before the sunrise when the sky was going bonkers for a few minutes.

Today’s photo is of the most common view on this blog, out my window. It has been many months since I’ve taken a pic from this location. The view has been rather boring this summer with endless days of either blue or smoky skies. But yesterday the sunrise was rather nice with the smoke (from the Goff (aka Fort Complex) Fire that has been burning thousands of acres in the Applegate for over a month now) mostly gone and some interesting clouds.

Today’s photo is from last week’s trip to the Howard Prairie Lake Resort Marina. Today we are heading down to California to do a weekend of camping at Lake Siskiyou.

Mount McLoughlin can be seen in the distance in the center. In real life the mountain stands out much more, but with a wide angle lens everything seems more distant than in reality.

Twenty miles east of Ashland you will find Howard Prairie Lake. We headed up there yesterday to escape the heat and take a bike ride. At an elevation of over 4500 feet (Ashland is at 2000 feet), the temperature is usually about 10 degrees cooler.

Today’s photo is a three pic photomerge (with a wide angle lens to begin with) so it covers almost 180 degrees. If you look really closely you can see Mt. McLoughlin to the right of center.

Perhaps you are getting bored of viewing photos of SOU’s Women’s Rugby Team playing in prom dresses? I have more, many more photos I could show you in fact. But this will do it for Prom Dress Rugby week. Tomorrow we will resume with some different pics. As for me, I will be taking a train from New York to Boston tomorrow. Today’s photo is of about 250-300 degrees worth of landscape. This picture is a photomerge from this past Saturday at our school (SOU), year-end party. I took about 11 photos to make up this panorama. Unfortunately, I took them horizontally (and I should have taken them vertically to get in more sky/ground) which meant that in order to crop them into a proper, rectangular pic I’d have to crop out the sun. Instead I just left the photomerged version as is without a crop.

As this photo was taken from the south side of Ashland, you can’t see Mt. Ashland (the Siskiyous are in the way) or many of the other items you normally see in my panoramas taken from the east side of Ashland like the Ashland Springs Hotel, etc. You can see Pilot Rock to the left if you click on the photo for a much higher resolution version.
