It’s not everyday that you get the chance to stand on the roof of a two-story, Victorian Italianate house built in 1883 near downtown Ashland. When that opportunity affords itself on a day (near the end of autumn) when half the town is getting rained on and the other half is under a bright blue sky you count yourself lucky. Today’s photo is about a 300 degree panorama I photomerged together. For loads more details click on the above image. Depending on your browser you may want to click on it again for even more detail. See if you can find the Ashland Springs Hotel, Wagner Butte, the Historic Ashland Armory, and Grizzly Peak. On Wednesday I had a bit of free time in the afternoon, and the clouds began to break up, so I headed up Highway 66 into the Green Springs. I was going to look for a bald eagle I heard had nested near Hyatt Lake. More on the eagle later….

On my way home I came down Dead Indian Memorial Road into Ashland and took several photos which I photomerged together to arrive at the above panorama picture.

Three Sisters from Bend, Oregon

We went camping in Bend, Oregon for a few nights earlier this month. As part of the “Paulina Plunge Tour” we ate lunch near this burned-out forest with a view of this set of three volcanic peaks called Three Sisters.

Today’s photo was taken by Ellie on Interstate 5 on the way to Salem, from inside of a moving car, back in May. I’m not sure if that is a rainbow or just glare from the window she was shooting through. In any event, it looks like it was a pretty drive. Oregon has a lot of these kinds of scenes.

One of my favorite things about driving Ellie to school every morning is seeing this view of Grizzly Peak (from E Main Street between Walker and Wightman). Every day is different–the clouds, the shadows, the level of green (or snow), cows in the field (or not), fog, etc. Today’s photo was yesterday’s view, one of the better ones in my memory so I pulled over to take a picture as I sometimes do.

Ten minutes later, when I got to work, the clouds had lifted and I could see that Grizzly Peak was covered in snow. Grizzly being blanketed in snow is not unusual, but this is June! I don’t think I have ever seen snow on Grizzly in June.

Ashland’s northeast side looks great this time of year with its greening hills and wildflowers. Today’s photo is the view from my daughter’s flute lesson last week. I thought it looked like Teletubbyland, but she pictured Frodo walking over the hill from his abode in The Shire.
