Shugakuin Imperial Villa panorama

8 photo-photomerged panorama of Kyoto’s Shugakuin Imperial Villa

The sky wasn’t so great for a panorama like this, as rain had been coming down in buckets and was about to begin again. I took this photo on one of the hottest and most humid days of 2013 in Kyoto. Not pleasant weather for such a pleasant place like the Shugakuin Imperial Villa.

All Aboard!

Train heading for the Osaka Airport (KIX or Kansai Kuko or 関西国際空港) and then on to Wakayama (和歌山)

The scene on the day I left Japan for Korea last summer as I stood on the platform in the Tennoji Station in Osaka…

It doesn’t look like I will be going to Asia this year, but I will likely be spending a couple weeks in Mexico in August, my first return to Mexico in about eight years.

Kikkoman in Yankee Stadium

Kikkoman ad in Yankee Stadium

Today’s photo is of my seat in Yankee Stadium back in the summer of 2012. I was in the first row of the second deck right behind the Kikkoman advertisement (from which I took this photo) until I couldn’t take the heat anymore and moved to a similar location on the first base side in the shade. It was over 100 degrees and very humid–hence the empty seats in the sun.

Look for many more Japanese advertisements in Yankee Stadium this summer as the arrival of Masahiro Tanaka (田中 将大) means there will likely be more people watching Yankee games in Japan than in New York.

Jingu Stadiums

With the conclusion of the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games, Japan will look ever forward to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics just six years from now.

Today’s photo comes from Mori Tower looking northwest to the future site of the Kasumigaoka National Stadium which will be built in the coming years. I apologize for the crookedness of the photo, but if I straightened this photo the stadium in the upper right-hand corner would get cropped out. This will be the site of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2020 games.

The baseball stadium in the center, which is home to the Yakult Swallows, isn’t going anywhere (that I know of).
