One of my favorite things as a kid was listening to the radio on the night of Halloween while going through my recently acquired candy stash. Instead of hearing The Eagles or Boston for the millionth time, the stations would feature “scarier” tracks on Halloween evening. For instance, I can remember on the Halloween, just a week after my 14th birthday, hearing “The Number of the Beast” on the radio for the first time. That song remains a favorite, 37 years later, and Halloween continues to be my favorite holiday.

Today/tonight will end the nearly 20-day run that is the 47th edition of the International Cervantino Festival in Guanajuato, Mexico. I just happened to be here for nearly half of those days. The last few days have featured this art installation on the steps of the University of Guanajuato. Besides the rainbow of colors shown here, there were various moving light works that gave the appearance of a snake, or other objects, pulsating or moving up and down the stairs. The visuals were incredible. I took this on Wednesday night but went back on Friday night to sit in the second-story bar across the street for a better view. I was mesmerized by the display for an hour or so.
There are dozens, if not hundreds, of things going on at once in the city during the festival. The crowds can be incredible in size–especially on the two Saturday nights I was here.

The Washington State Cougars will be in Eugene today. Today’s photo comes from the 2017 season, a decent season for the Cougars. Erik Powell, the kicker for WSU, had a great season going 6 for 7 in the 40-49 yard range and 3 for 4 from 50+ yards. Surprisingly, he didn’t get picked up by any NFL teams.
