Mets vs. Yankees
When I visit a new stadium for the first time (especially when it is also likely my last time too) I don’t like to sit in one seat the entire game. However, when it is a Yankees vs. Mets game, the game will be sold out and not many empty seats can be found to move into. I found a few seats in the very back row behind home plate to watch an inning from. The banter in this location between the Mets and Yankees fans was quite hilarious.
The Mets and Yankees face off later this month over Memorial Day Weekend. Two games will be played at Citi Field followed by two in Yankee Stadium.

I meant to post something about Omar Vizquel near the end of the 2012 baseball season, just before he retired, but I forgot that I had watched him play twice (once in Oakland and once in Boston) last year until this photo came up as my random, desktop image of the day.
Omar is actually older than me. With his retirement I became older than every active MLB player which makes me feel very old. As a kid I remember thinking how old the players all were. Now they all seem so young. What happened?
Vizquel had some great years between 1992 and 2006, winning 11 Gold Gloves during that stretch. He finished his career with nearly 3,000 hits and over 400 stolen bases.

Today is one of my favorite days of the year and not because it’s April Fool’s Day. Opening day* of MLB means the dullness of winter is over, even if there are still some cold days to come.
Today’s photo is from our trip to San Francisco last Thanksgiving. Long before AT&T Park, or even Candlestick Park, there was this baseball diamond with a spectacular view of The City (if you had a vantage point to see over the wall). They played softball, rather than baseball, here on The Rock, and they even kept stats.
* I know there was a game yesterday, but most teams open today.
Dominican Republic goes 8-0 to win 2013 WBC

The Dominican Republic defeated Puerto Rico in San Francisco last night to win the 2013 World Baseball Championship. I thought about making a road trip down I-5 to see it, but my schedule wouldn’t allow it.
The pitching staff of the DR dominated, keeping their ERA under 2.00 for the entire series. Dotel, pictured above from a 2012 MLB game I attended, pitched 4.2 scoreless innings when he was in games in relief.
David Wright’s Grand Slam Saves Team USA in WBC
David Wright of the New York Mets (and Team USA in the 2013 WBC)
A win today (against Canada) for Team USA in the 2013 World Baseball Classic and they will move on to the next round in Miami. Today’s game may have been meaningless, and they would already be eliminated had they lost to Italy yesterday. However, David Wright hit a grand slam with the score tied, and Team USA held on for the 6-2 victory.
