Papa Ramen

Papa Ramen @ Skydebanegade 16, 1709 København V

I had ramen in Copenhagen a couple times last summer but neither bowl was great. I tried to eat at Papa Ramen last year too, but they were closed. This year I got there before they shut down for the summer and it was great! I think the noodles were homemade, the seasoning and toppings perfect, and I really loved the three paper-thin slices of chashu. They have a second branch on Studiestræde, with lower prices, that will not be closing down for the summer. I plan to visit there (and Slurp Ramen Joint which has been on summer break but will be reopening next week) soon.

4th of July parade in Copenhagen

Carlsberg Brewery horse-drawn carriage ride

OK, so the title is misleading. There is no 4th of July parade in Copenhagen. However, on my way out of my apartment this morning (I live by the Carlsberg Brewery) I met the above scene, as I have many times before, and it made me think of the parades going on back home in the USA.

If you take a tour of Carlsberg between 12:30 and 14:30 you can ride in one of the horse-drawn carriages at no additional charge. You may pass me on my bike if you do it during the next four weeks. These aren’t the Budweiser Clydesdales. I think Carlsberg has been using horses longer actually. These are Jutland horses, just as beautiful but not as big.

Nine years ago, we had a fun experience on American Independence Day at Tivoli. I guess that means this blog is about to have its 10-year anniversary.

Copenhell withdrawals and a solution

diamond head

Diamond Head’s Brian Tatler @ 2016 Metal Brew

Copenhell hasn’t been over for more than 70 hours, yet I’m craving more. I’ll be going to the Roskilde Festival for four days in a row beginning tomorrow, and yet I know I’ll be going through withdrawals next week. So even though I previously said, with regard to the Metal Magic Festival, that

“If Diamond Head is playing on Thursday or Saturday AND at least two of the bands below are also playing on Thursday or Saturday, then I will probably make the trip for just that day.
Nifelheim
Tribulation
Absu”

and although Diamond Head is playing Saturday and only Absu is also playing on Saturday, I’ve decided to make the trip to Fredericia again anyway.

My reasoning is that if Diamond Head was ever playing two hours away from me in Southern Oregon, I’d make the trip. Therefore, tossing Absu in as an added bonus means I should make the journey while I have the chance.

So next Saturday I’ll be adding the Metal Magic Festival to my summer itinerary.
