Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon (Las Vegas, Nevada)

Yesterday we did a short hike with my sister’s family to a lovely place I’d never been to before. Today we are headed to the Grand Canyon (for the first time), and beginning tomorrow night we will be in Sedona, Arizona for the new year.

If you ever want to drive the 13-mile scenic road through Red Rock Canyon, don’t go between Christmas and New Years. The road was closed due to high traffic. The only way in, around, and out was on foot. They still charged everyone to use the road which seemed rather odd.

That said, it was well worth the $3 a person price, and you’ll see more by seeing less on foot.

Lemmy of Motorhead @ London’s Crobar

My image is of agony, my servants rape the land
Obsequious and arrogant, clandestine and vain
Two thousands years of misery, of torture in my name
Hypocrisy made paramount, paranoia the law
My name is called religion, sadistic, sacred whore.

Lemmy died a year ago today. Four days ago (on his birthday) I watched one of his final performances on AXS TV. I cried.

Of course, he’s looked liked he’s been on his last leg for decades, even when I last saw him (on the Orgasmatron tour early in 1987). However, it should have been plain to anyone who was at one of these last shows, or who saw the video before he died, that he didn’t have more than weeks or months in November of 2015.

Today’s photo comes from after his death. I took this pic this past summer when I was at a rock ‘n roll bar in London. Great place, BTW. I meet a friendly chap at Crobar, who was from across the Thames, who paid for all of my drinks.

Santoku

For TBT I chose this pic today. This was the grocery store near our apartment in Tokyo from 2009-2010 that we went to pretty much every day. After returning to the states I realized I didn’t take any photos of the stuff we saw every day, like Santoku. So when I went on a nostalgia stroll in 2013 I decided to get a photo of good, ol’ Santoku.
