Goal!

FCK soccer goal

Rasmus Falk scores a goal for F.C. Kobenhavn

This past summer I went to my third professional soccer match. All three were in Copenhagen. All three were blowouts in favor of the home team. All three were at a mostly empty Parken Stadium.

I don’t really understand how European soccer works, but F.C. Copenhagen won the Danish Superliga and the Danish Cup in the prior year and the Danish Superliga again before I saw this game. Maybe those games are better attended.

By the time I’m in Denmark in the middle of summer things have moved on to the UEFA Europa League, in which FCK dominates in the early rounds and gets crushed in later rounds. I’m only there for the early rounds. On this night, FCK beat the Crusaders F.C. (Belfast, Ireland) 6-0.

One year ago…

Lemmy of Motorhead @ London’s Crobar

My image is of agony, my servants rape the land
Obsequious and arrogant, clandestine and vain
Two thousands years of misery, of torture in my name
Hypocrisy made paramount, paranoia the law
My name is called religion, sadistic, sacred whore.

Lemmy died a year ago today. Four days ago (on his birthday) I watched one of his final performances on AXS TV. I cried.

Of course, he’s looked liked he’s been on his last leg for decades, even when I last saw him (on the Orgasmatron tour early in 1987). However, it should have been plain to anyone who was at one of these last shows, or who saw the video before he died, that he didn’t have more than weeks or months in November of 2015.

Today’s photo comes from after his death. I took this pic this past summer when I was at a rock ‘n roll bar in London. Great place, BTW. I meet a friendly chap at Crobar, who was from across the Thames, who paid for all of my drinks.

Merry Christmas

Moon, Jupiter, Sun rise

Dawn @ Sycan Ranch (Beatty, Oregon)

We just got back from two nights at our friends’ ranch. We were planning on staying three nights, but winter storm warnings for tomorrow caused us to leave a day early.

I got up before the sun this morning to take some photos. The temperature outside was a balmy 15 degrees Fahrenheit. The ponds on the property were all frozen over. The kids went ice skating later in the day.

The white dot under the moon in this photo is Jupiter. The sun made its appearance about 15 minutes later.

St. Paul’s Church, Copenhagen

Nyboder's Church

I was killing time one lovely afternoon in Copenhagen this past summer when I stumbled upon this neighborhood for the first time. I think I will do more random exploring of neighborhoods in Copenhagen next summer.

Anyway, this neighborhood is featured in the recent movie, The Danish Girl. I’m not sure if this church (Sankt Pauls Kirke) makes an appearance in the film or not. I’ll post a photo or two of the buildings that are in the movie soon.

5-photo photomerge from Cape Perpetua stone shelter

When I go on a hike I don’t like to bring extra lenses. On the Amanda Trail from Yachats (a rather strenuous trail because you are always gaining or losing elevation) I took along only my 70-300mm lens which was way too telephoto for this scene. To get this shot with that lens I had to take five photos at 70mm and then photomerge them together later.

If you look really closely at this photo you can see Spouting Horn, Thor’s Well, and Devil’s Churn. You don’t have to look very closely to see Highway 101.
