Sho River

Ryan & Ellie crossing the Shō River (庄川 or Shō-gawa)

You would think that the river running alongside Shirakawago would be called the Shirakawa (白川). However, it isn’t. Instead it is called the Sho River, and if the place wasn’t amazing enough without a river running through it… well, let’s just say a more beautiful place couldn’t be created in fantasies.

El Capitan Meadow

Although you can see El Capitan in El Capitan Meadow, the views are excellent all the way around so today’s photo is not of El Capitan but is the view west from the meadow. Ryan and I are in there, but with a wide angle lens we sort of get lost in the scenery.

Skycycle Ride at Arakawa Amusement Park (あらかわ遊園)

Arakawa Amusement Park あらかわ遊園 tokyo with kids what to do

If you are looking for an inexpensive activity with kids in Tokyo, Arakawa Amusement Park is the place for you. Way cheaper than Tokyo Disneyland, and with ride lines that are tiny by comparison, you’ll still get that Japanese amusement park experience without breaking the bank and wasting most of your day in endless queues. One of the funnest things is getting there as you can take the old Tokyo street car line (Tokyo Toden Arakawa Line). Avoid Sundays (and Saturdays but to a lesser extent) for best results.

Fenway Park panorama

Wide angle view from Fenway Park, Loge Box 157, Row BB

Today’s photo is a photomerge of more than half a dozen photos taken from the seat I previously mentioned here. This would have been a great seat, had there not been people (fans, ushers, and vendors) walking in front of me constantly. There were very few pitches in which I could see both the pitcher and the batter and quite a few pitches in which I couldn’t see either.

It’s tough to tell, given the wide angle of the lens coupled with a photomerge in Photoshop of numerous pics, but David Ortiz is the batter against Ricky Romero. Big Papi hit his 399th career home run in this game as Romero was roughed up for just his second loss (eight victories) on the season.

Taiko no Tatsujin arcade game

You aren’t likely to find a taiko arcade game in the USA anytime soon (although Namco did make a version for the Sony PlayStation 2 called “Taiko: Drum Master”). However, there are more than 15 versions of Taiko no Tatsujin (太鼓の達人) available for your amusement in Japanese arcades. Actually, this wasn’t even in your typical arcade. I took today’s photo in the building where you buy tickets to ride a gondola (ropeway actually) in Hakone.
