I walked up (and later down) Shosenkyo so I didn’t have the energy or desire to do additional hiking once I reached the top. However, if you go to the top of Shosenkyo via car or bus and want to hike around, these are your most common options.
Today’s photo comes from near the top of the Shosenkyo Ropeway (昇仙峡ロープウェイ) in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan.
I believe the bell is meant for lovers. I think they are supposed to strike the bell together, write themselves a note, stick the note in the nearby mailbox, and then a year later the note arrives in their home mailbox.
I had no lover with me on this day so I walked across the way for some shaved ice instead.
