After just four practices, mOcean’s 17U team fared well in their first time playing competitively as a group, ending the tournament with a 12-3 mark. (The girls usually play against each other as they are from seven different high schools in California and Southern Oregon, but this is their first time working together.) They have two local tournaments to iron out some kinks before heading south again for the President’s Day weekend tourney in San Mateo next month where they will likely face some of the same (mostly SF Bay Area) teams.

No word yet on tomorrow’s brackets, but the mOcean 17U team got through pool play without a loss today. The #2 seed lost to mOcean twice so mOcean should be one of the top seeds in the top bracket for Sunday’s double elimination tournament.

Mount McLoughlin from Roxy Ann Peak trail
@mtashland @TravelOregon
The day before heading to Daytona, two weeks ago today, we took a walk up to the top of Roxy Ann Peak. Strangely enough, this was our first time up Roxy Ann Peak even though we have lived in the Rogue Valley for over 14 years now.
The weather forecast was for no rain. That’s not what the sky looked like. We didn’t get rained on, but it did begin raining the moment we got into the car at the end of our hike. This storm ultimately turned out to hold enough snow for the mountains that Mt. Ashland was able to open a few days later for the first time in two seasons.

We are now in Daytona, but we have three more days until the game. Today’s agenda includes Champions of Character activities in the morning, awards in the early afternoon, and football practice after that.
@SOURaiders @SOU_Football
Fun fact #2: When all is said and done, SOU will have played 15 football games this year–50% more games than many teams. Most NAIA teams play 10 or 11 games in a season.
