Wildlife Safari
On our way back to Ashland from Bandon, Ellie and Ryan saw a sign for the Wildlife Safari. Yes, Oregon has a safari. They wanted to go. We told them they had already been, but they had no memory of it as it had been probably 8 or 9 years. So, since we had nothing else planned for the day and the weather was great, we pulled in.
Wildlife Safari in Winston, Oregon was funner than expected. It was more expensive than expected too at almost $20 a person. With little kids it isn’t nearly as fun as with teenagers. Who would have thought?
Ryan drove, and I took photos through my open, passenger seat window. Shortly after taking this photo, this camel stuck his head inside the car through my window. That was a little bit scary and quite stinky.
P.S. That’s a yak in the mirror.
Welcome to Old Town Bandon
We headed over to the Oregon Coast this past weekend for a couple nights. I’ll have some pictures from Bandon over the next little while. I hope you don’t mind the diversion, but the weather was fantastic so I have some pretty decent images.
Eastview Trail – Ashland, Oregon
The guidebooks for hiking or biking Eastview Trail talk about the wonderful views from the trail itself. Actually, there aren’t any views of the east anymore from Eastview Trail as the trees have grown since the trail was created and now the views are all obstructed. It’s still a nice trail though.
Near the trailhead, you do get a bit of a view from the location pictured here. That’s Mount McLoughlin poking up in the distance on the right.
Clouds over Lake of the Woods
Another from the archives today… This is Lake of the Woods in Southern Oregon with clouds shrouding the top of Brown Mountain in the background as seen in June of 2009.
A stroll through the Trinity Alps
Today’s photo is from the archives, July of 2009 to be exact. Without a person or two in this photo you don’t get the sense of just how tall these trees were in Northern California.

I haven’t been to Crater Lake yet this year, but it probably looks something like this and will for the next three or four months.
Under the Milky Way
Since acquiring my Tokina 11-16mm lens last month I’ve been waiting for a moonless, clear evening to see if I could capture a piece of the Milky Way. While I still have a ways to go to come up with the image in my head, today’s photo is a first attempt.
I took this in my backyard, while in house slippers, standing in an inch or two of snow. My house looked completely dark to my eyes. However, when reviewing this image I went to find the source of blue light. It turns out that one little blue light on a power cord for a netbook was all it took to cause the room to glow like this with a 25 second exposure.

Today’s photo is from late summer of last year when I did the Brown Mountain Trail–a trail which doesn’t actually go up Brown Mountain at all.

About 10 days ago, Ryan turned 16. For his birthday they headed to the Oregon coast and some ATV riding in the sand dunes. I didn’t go with them as there wasn’t space in the car for another and Ellie had a volleyball tournament. My wife took this photo of the sunset.
