Aquarium of the Bay – Pier 39 – San Francisco

Today’s photo comes from our trip to San Francisco this past November.

Speaking of trips… I booked my flights to Japan and Korea this morning for this summer. Strangely, it was cheaper to layover several days in Japan each way than to just book a round-trip ticket to Korea. Also, staying in Japan each way will break up what would have been two, 34+ hour one-way trips into something more realistic. I was trying various airports and days and found that if I flew to Fukuoka (through Tokyo) it was about $1,000 cheaper than just flying to Tokyo. This makes no sense, but I guess airline ticket pricing doesn’t make much sense. The super cheap fare to Fukuoka was only available for one day. I thought, oh well, I’ll just get off in Tokyo even though I also have a ticket to Fukuoka. But I’ve never been to Fukuoka so I’ll go to Kyushu for a change. On my way back from Korea I’ll get to spend a day or more in Tokyo.

So, for those of you who have been to Fukuoka, what should I see and do between Fukuoka and Osaka? I’ll have about four days. I have been to Himeji, but other than Himeji this part of Japan is all new to me.

Ghost becomes Ghost B.C.

Ghost, from Sweden, recently had a name change to Ghost B.C., and they released a groovy new video from their forthcoming CD. When I watch it I think of American Bandstand in the 1970s, complete with lip-synching. As I’ve said before, these guys have a sense of humor.

Pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training today

Doug Fister delivers a pitch

Spring training begins today with pitchers and catchers reporting. With the addition of Torii Hunter and Victor Martinez to the Tigers’ lineup, they are the early favorite to be the best team in the American League (if not all of baseball). Doug Fister should get plenty of offensive help in his starts.

I fearlessly predict an Oakland A’s World Series victory for 2013 in 7 games over the Dodgers.

I haven’t been to Mexico for about seven years. Today’s photo is more than seven years old. I may be going back in about a year, but I’m not sure yet.

Testament kicked off their headlining tour (Dark Roots of Thrash Tour) last night in San Francisco. Also on the bill are Overkill, Flotsam and Jetsam, and 4ARM. Testament will wrap up the U.S. portion of the tour in Sacramento at the Ace of Spades, where I took today’s photo last year, on February 28.

Make Way for Ducklings

“Make Way for Ducklings” statues in Boston’s Public Garden

One morning while we were in Boston I went for an early morning walk while everyone else was sleeping. I came upon these duck statues in the Public Garden and recalled seeing the book, “Make Way for Ducklings,” in our room. After returning to the room I read the book for the first time in many years and found many of the items mentioned in the book to have been things I saw on my morning walk.
