Having been a fan of Candlemass since the late 1980s, I was a bit disappointed to see them for the first time (at Copenhell in 2017) without Messiah Marcolin. I know, Messiah wasn’t the lead singer on their most famous album, but he still was Candlemass in my mind. A few weeks later I was shocked to finally get to see Messiah, as a one-off surprise with Amon Amarth at Gefle Metal Festival. They performed Hel off of “Deceiver of the Gods”.
The magic didn’t stop there. A couple days later I was offered a ride to Stockholm by Johan Hegg’s former girlfriend, and a couple years later I stood next to Johan during Dark Tranquillity’s set at Gefle Metal Festival.
There will be no Gefle Metal Festival for me in 2020 as the days conflict with the Metal Magic Festival.

Blackwater Holylight and Earthless opened for Yob at the WOW Hall a couple nights ago. I went, of course, to see Yob, but the opening acts were outstanding. In fact, if I were to have created this list today, instead of a week ago, Veils of Winter would be on it.
