Wildflower heaven

Wildflowers in Banff’s Sunshine Meadows

Today’s photo comes from the most wildflower day of my 56 years of existence. We hiked almost 10 miles and had wildflowers for most of them. Sometimes there were so many wildflowers my brain felt like it would explode. So many different ones too. We saw at least a dozen different varieties of wildflowers amongst the thousands (millions?) of total wildflowers.

I didn’t realize this at the time, but our hiking started in Alberta, crossed into British Columbia for three or four miles, and then ended up back in Alberta.

Surprise Corner to Hoodoos Trail is not for bikes

Biking Banff

I’ve never been this far from home with my actual bike before. Very fun.

Regarding the title of this photo, this trail allows bikes, but there are some very steep sections–some of which include stairs even–that bikes don’t do well on. Hence, we locked our bikes up after just a few hundred meters into the 10+ km trail and did the rest on foot. Great trail BTW (and not crowded until the Hoodoos Overlook). Highly recommend!

Mt. Rundle, Bow River, and Hoodoos

We were 6+ miles into our 10 or so miles of hiking on this day when we were rewarded with this view. We had it all to ourselves for about two minutes and then 40+ people, who had merely driven to this spot, showed up. Back to the trail and Surprise Corner we went.
