My first visit to MAZDA Zoom-Zoom Stadium Hiroshima (広島市民球場) featured the Hiroshima Toyo Carp and my Yakult Swallows. I saw these two play in Tokyo three years prior. In both cases the visiting team won. The Carp are in the Central League so the pitchers bat. (The other league uses a DH like the American League in MLB.) In today’s photo you can see the Carp pitcher, Kan Otake, bat. It was an amazing at bat for a pitcher. He worked the count from 0-2 to 3-2, fouled off numerous pitches with a 3-2 count, and then finally made an out.

Yosemite National Park under a full moon

Last month’s trip to Yosemite had us staying south of the valley, which meant a different approach than the one I had always taken before from the San Francisco Bay Area. When you come in from the south you experience “tunnel view”–made famous by Ansel Adams. We happened to be leaving the valley to return to our lodgings just as a nearly full moon rose above the scene.

You don’t normally get a pic of your own car on the road, but we had friends with us in Yosemite over spring break, and when I took this photo I was in their car.

Yosemite’s Bridalveil Fall base

For today’s photo I didn’t use a filter. Instead, I sat my camera down on a bridge post, changed the f stop to 25 and left the shutter open for half a second. I brought my tripod with me to Yosemite, but I never had the chance to use it. I would have liked to have taken some photos after dark, but out hotel was an hour away, and we left the park every day before sunset and arrived after sunrise. This is probably the only photo I took with a somewhat long exposure.
