The hands of Rob Cavestany

death angel ultra violence tour testament anthrax ace of spades sacto california sacramento

I headed down to Ace of Spades in Sacramento, California this past Friday to see Death Angel, Testament, and Anthrax. Unfortunately, they only gave Death Angel 30 minutes to play and that was the band I wanted to see the most.

I’ll post some more photos from the show over the next few weeks. Click here for a picture I took on my way home. The buses of the bands came up this same stretch of highway just an hour or two later I bet.

At the Dodgers-Pirates game I went to earlier this season at Dodger Stadium, Bear Grylls, sticking to his “wild man” image, lit the baseball on fire before throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. I wasn’t far behind home plate at the time.

Remembering 9/11 and Flight 11

september 11 memorial new york city flight 11

Eleven years ago today I arrived at the Medford, Oregon airport just moments after Flight 11 crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City. I was supposed to be flying to San Jose, California that morning, but my flight was cancelled, and some planes in the air between west coast cities were landing in Medford rather than their scheduled destinations.

At the 9/11 Memorial, which we visited in June, the names of the 87 victims of Flight 11 are inscribed around one of the two memorial pools.

Soccer or karate?

For the next few months we are hosting a Rotary exchange student from Japan. This past weekend we watched his soccer game. One of the fun things about sports photography is I don’t know what I am going to end up with. When the action happens I just fire off a bunch of shots and hope for some good photos in the end. I thought this pic was particularly fun.

Crescent City Beach

Last weekend we headed to California and hung out at Kellogg Beach just north of Crescent City. The weather was fantastic. Crescent City (to the south) and Brookings (Oregon to the north) were enveloped in fog, but this empty beach in the Pelican Bay area was empty and completely blue sky for the few hours we were there.
