So the title is a bit of a misnomer, but if you look really carefully you can see the waterfall, in the distance (upper right section of this photograph), dumping into the ocean. The location for this photo is Port Arnarstapi, and this was a warm day for Iceland.
Today is our fifth and final day of hiking around Mount Hood. Today’s photo comes from our Tamanawas Falls Hike which goes along Cold Spring Creek most of the way.
Gluggafoss (AKA Merkjárfoss) is probably not normally worth the effort as it isn’t on the ring road, and is a bit of a detour to get to, but I was staying at a nearby guesthouse anyway that night. The upside is that there are few tourists.
Time of year may also play into your decision to visit or not. Most photos on the internet show a more depressing (brown) scene. I think it’s only this green in late July and August.
A little something from last week when I was in Iceland…
I had this church (Búðakirkja) to myself as well as the waterfall (Bjarnarfoss) in the distance after. Amazing place.
The day was unusually warm (for Iceland–probably over 70 degrees F) with no wind. Beginning just after midnight (still light out), the wind began to howl, and never let up much during the next two days as I drove around and slept on the edge of the Westfjords.
