Thermal Falls
Today’s photo comes from my hike to the Reykjadalur Hot Spring Geothermal River, certainly the most amazing bath I’ve ever taken.
Anyone familiar with the northwestern fjords of Iceland? Any similar bathing places in that region?
I covered Reykjavik on my first trip, most things between Reykjavik and Blue Diamond Beach and the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon on my second, and will be exploring the area north of Reykjavik on my third (in just over two months).

I thought about another Norway trip this summer (where today’s photo was taken near Flåm), but ended up opting for a return visit to Iceland instead. Last time in Iceland I explored the area between Reykjavík and Diamond Beach pretty well so this year I’ll head north and west to explore the Westfjords and surrounding areas. I’m going to be sleeping in my rented van which comes equipped with a heated bed, sleeping bag, chairs, camping table, refrigerator, kitchenware, and camping gas. The van costs less per day than my lodgings alone last time. And the van is, obviously, far more flexible in terms of where I end my days. Can’t wait.

Back in 1994 we spent a few nights camping in Yosemite with friends. The catch was that to get the camping sites we agreed to do some service in the park. Our project was to plant saplings along the Merced River in this spot to prevent erosion of the banks of the river. The trees were just a few feet tall, at most, when we planted them.
Fast forward nearly 20 years to our next visit to Yosemite and we got to see that our saplings had grown into these 20-30 feet high trees.
