After seeing the view from Griffith Observatory during the day, I thought I would head back up there at night for some more photos. However, after the Dodgers game I was able to capture the above from the parking lot at Chavez Ravine so I never made it back up to Griffith Park.
At 11mm on my DX (crop sensor) Nikon D7000 today’s top image of Dodger Stadium is pretty wide. But I wanted to see what I could do with photomerge in Photoshop CS5 so I merged/stitched five images from the same vantage point together with the following result.
Not only do I like the result much more, but photomerge did a couple of really cool things. First, with each of the five images, the picture on Diamond Vision in left field changed. I thought photomerge would blend them all together into a mess. Instead, it took just the first one for a clean Diamond Vision scene. Second, players on the field and people in the stands were moving between the five photos. Somehow photomerge detected this and didn’t put multiple versions of the same person into the final scene. Very cool, photomerge. I think I love you. I guess I can ditch my ultra-wide angle lens and just photomerge my future photos together!
I’m down in Los Angeles for a few days and went to my first game at Dodger Stadium last night. I had a nice seat 12 rows behind home plate where I took today’s photo of Juan Uribe singling in the 1st inning. This was the last time the Dodgers scored, and they held on to win 3-2.
Yesterday we met up with friends at Lake Siskiyou in California near the town of Mt. Shasta. We got rained on in the car on the way down I-5 and could barely see Mt. Shasta so things weren’t looking good. Once we got there the rain resumed. However, after an hour or so the weather cleared and we headed to the beach.
The day turned into a great one as the skies cleared and the beach was nearly empty. The remaining clouds danced around Mt. Shasta for our viewing pleasure.
I attempted to take the same picture four times using four different settings (vivid green, vivid blue, vivid red, and sepia). The first three all look identical to my eyes. The sepia one came out kind of nice looking though.
We rented paddle boats and the kids went exploring.
Last, but not least, is a vertical shot (which probably looks better in a vertical blog than the others). They all look best if you click on them after maximizing your browser window.
