The Dave Matthews Band at the Gorge Amphitheatre for Labor Day weekend is a tradition going back many years. I’ve been to two of the last three years. Alas, I will not be there in a week for the 2019 edition. Hopefully, I’ll get back for 2020.

These are called the Painted Dunes and you have to climb Lassen’s Cinder Cone to see them like this. Actually, you have to hope the sun is peeking through the clouds just so to see them like this…

Gluggafoss (AKA Merkjárfoss) is probably not normally worth the effort as it isn’t on the ring road, and is a bit of a detour to get to, but I was staying at a nearby guesthouse anyway that night. The upside is that there are few tourists.

Time of year may also play into your decision to visit or not. Most photos on the internet show a more depressing (brown) scene. I think it’s only this green in late July and August.
