Wild & Scenic Rogue River campsite

My lack of posts this past week was due to a trip we took down the Rogue River which took us completely off the grid until now. Today’s photo is of our campsite on the first night. I’ll be posting more photos from our adventures over the next month or two here and here.

We were in California for a couple days, returning last night to Oregon. Today’s photo comes from a hike we did on our way to Sacramento in the Trinity Alps Wilderness. After this lake we also visited Boulder Lake which is less than a mile away.

No life guard on duty on this day. No one was going in the water for a few reasons. One reason was that no one was there! Another was that even though this photo looks warm and sunny, it was actually below freezing with the wind chill factor. That’s snow on the mountains surrounding the lake.
I imagine Sand Harbor looks very different in August, not nearly as pretty and very crowded.

For Memorial Day the family hiking group got together for the first time in a while. The older siblings are in college, but the younger ones joined in with the dads. We headed down I-5 from Ashland, hooked up with Highway 3 in Yreka, and parked once we hit the Pacific Crest Trail (a bit beyond Etna, California). Four miles of walking on the PCT later and we found ourselves at the place where I took today’s photo (photos actually as this is a photomerge of about eight photos).
More details about getting there and other lakes to hike to in the area can be found here. This area is called the Russian Wilderness, but we didn’t see any Russians on this day.
This stadium hasn’t been used in a couple years (when I took today’s photos and photomerged them into this single image). I wonder what has happened to Gwangju Mudeung Baseball Stadium since the Tigers moved into Gwangju-Kia Champions Field (pictured in the distance here) in 2014. Has it been torn down? Some of my best memories from Korea happened right here.
