Today’s agenda

Krisiun @ 2017 Gefle Metal Festival

#geflemetalfestival #geflemetal @Krisiun #brutalAssault2019 #brutalassault @metalchurchis1

Followed by Sacred Reich, Metal Church (for the first time since July 2, 1987* at the Omni in Oakland, California!), Kampfar, Windhand, and more.

* If you would have told me 32 years and a month ago that I would see Metal Church next in over 32 years, in the Czech Republic no less, my mind would have exploded. Back in 1987 the Czech Republic didn’t even exist. Back then it was Czechoslovakia and part of the Soviet Union. Boy do I feel old…

Of the bands I’ve seen before, I’m most looking forward to Voivod. Of those I haven’t seen before, Hypocrisy.

Lots of rain in the forecast at Brutal Assault today, but as the guy sitting on the train next to me on the way to Roskilde Festival said, “We are not made of sugar!”

1889 Gävle Skola

130-year old school house

Today’s photo was taken after midnight on my way back to my Airbnb after the Gefle Metal Festival was over a couple years ago.

This year my Airbnb in Gävle was in an amazing house of similar age.

This year’s festival is the 40th annual and takes place this Saturday (August 10, 2019). If you happen to be in Japan, you may want to head over to Inuyama for a wonderful evening. Lots to do during the day in Inuyama as well, including the Meiji Mura open air museum.

Alexander Nevsky Lavra

Alexander Nevsky Lavra

The 1812 Overture was one the first classical CDs I ever owned. Maybe that’s not saying much because I own less than 10 classical CDs (and another one of those is The Nutcracker). But in any event, when my bus in Saint Petersburg, Russia wasn’t going in the direction that Google maps said it was supposed to be going I pulled up a map on my phone to see if anything interesting was in the neighborhood. Tchaikovsky’s grave was so I hopped off the bus to check it out.

Today’s photo isn’t of his grave but the monastery and church on the same grounds.
