Red Sand Beach (Hana, Maui, Hawaii)

I felt like my eyes were deceiving me when I was looking at this scene. Not just because it was extraordinarily beautiful, but how does turquoise water exist on top of dark red sand? Isn’t water clear for the most part, and the color we see from it comes from sky reflection or from the beach color under the water? In this case, neither was anything close to turquoise so…??!?!

I’ve seen azure ocean water before, but in every case (except this one), the sand beneath it was white.

Auschwitz

I decided to go to the movies yesterday. I like to be surprised at the movies so I tend to avoid any that I’ve seen a trailer for or have heard the plot in advance. Instead, I look at the IMDB ratings for the movies showing at my local theater and pick the one with the highest rating. Yesterday that turned out to be “The Zone of Interest”. Wow! What a powerful movie.

Along a similar note, I read Geddy Lee’s biography a couple of months ago.

“I clutch the wire fence

Wonderland Trail (Mt. Rainier National Park)

Something green for you on this St. Patrick’s Day. We were supposed to see lots of green on the day we did the above hike. Unfortunately, we were in the clouds the entire time–sometimes having difficulty seeing more than just a few feet in front of us.

Broken Compass Bluegrass @ 2023 Hog Farm Hideaway

A year ago, I’d never heard of this band. Since then, I’ve seen them three times. The above photo is from the first time. Every time they are better than expected, even though my expectations have increased each time.

They are playing in Portland the next three nights at three different venues.
