Happy Camp Creek

There were at least a thousand campers within a 100-yard radius of this location. Yet from this spot, you couldn’t hear or see any of them, and they seemed very far away indeed.

I’ve visited Portland at least a couple dozen times over the past 25 years. I thought I had been to the Portland Japanese Garden about 20 years ago. We went for a visit this past weekend, and I realized it was the Seattle Japanese Garden that I went to long ago so this was a first. There was a pretty good downpour just before (and just after) taking this photo (which is a photomerge of 22 photos) so not many people around.

Kozel Manor House (Czech Republic)

Once upon a time, less than a year ago, I had a travel day in the Czech Republic in which I was to move from Pilsen to Český Krumlov via my rental car. Google Maps said I’d be there in 2.5 hours, but I couldn’t check in to my new lodgings for something like four or five hours so I “searched along the route” for the word “castle”. Google came up with something like 20 of them! What?!?! The first one I stopped at was this one (maybe because Kozel is also the name of a Czech beer, and I thought it could also be a brewery?). Gorgeous place with virtually no people.
